I did it! I set myself a goal to run a half marathon distance before my 50th birthday, and I ran it today, 5 days before my birthday! This was probably the most difficult run I ever did. First 15km were without any walking for rest (except the brief walk at km7 to eat a gel. I still can’t eat a gel while running). Starting 15km, i made brief walking rests for about 60 steps, and then continued to run to complete the kilometer, all the way until the last kilometer and a half that I pretty much walked. My calves hurt, my hamstrings were burning, and for the first time ever, my shins hurt as well.
One takeaway from all this is that I really enjoy shorter distances like 5k and 10k, and I really don’t enjoy longer distances than 15, so I guess that now this goal is achieved, I can go back to running distances I really enjoy.
