Timeline
how it all started
Two and a half years ago I was at my worst. After almost three years of covid and post covid, i wasn’t really moving at all, i worked from home full time, and my weight kept ballooning. At my lowest point (somewhere around the time this photo was taken) my weight peaked at 150kg, and combined with my 183cm frame, that put me right around the BMI of 45 - Obese class III (or just simply Morbidly obese, super fat, or what ever you want to call it.) Of course, the weight wasn’t there alone. It came with a plethora of medical issues that i wasn’t really taking care of properly. I had mostly uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (i did take the daily pill, and later on a daily injection) but I wasn’t really checking my blood glucose levels daily, or properly tracking everything else health related. What I didn’t know at the time was that my diabetes was silently chewing on my arteries, creating additional issues that will come to bite me in the ass big time.
Around this time, my wife decided that enough is enough, and she started the whole procedure for a bariatric surgery, to try and take back control of her weight and health. She also suffered from type 2 diabetes and other related issues, and after a lot of thinking I decided to do it as well. We started the whole process of doing checkups, taking appointments with a dietitian, slowly changing habits, eating proper 3 meals a day, eating healthier food, and overall taking a better care of ourselves.
Time slowly passed, November 2022 came around, my wife had her surgery scheduled, and i had a few more checkups to go. Next on schedule for me was a stress echo cardiogram. I got to the clinic where the test was performed, they did the initial echo cardiogram, all looked good, i got on the treadmill, started walking, and as my heart rate got up, i started feeling progressively worse. It was hard to breathe, and i had a dull ache in my chest. Since this was a controlled medical environment, i was immediately taken off the treadmill, and checked again, and indeed, something was not good with my cardio vascular system. To cut the long story short, i was rushed into the ER, where i was checked out, they found elevated levels of enzymes that indicate something not kosher was happening with my heart, and i was again rushed into ICU. The next morning i was rushed to surgery (catetherisation really) where they unclogged two of the four blockages i had in my arteries. The first two were on the left side, and both were 99% closed off. Two additional blockages were on the right side, and one was 80% and the other was 60%. Needless to say, i was in a very bad shape. The cardiologist that performed the procedure told me afterwards that in his opinion I was weeks away from a massive heart attack that probably would have been fatal based on all the data he had at his disposal.
After the heart was taken care of, I got myself a proper doctor for diabetes, my meds were changed, i was put on Ozempic (not for weight loss but for A1C control), and finally my diabetes was under control as well. I did inject insulin 4 times a day, and i also took additional meds every morning, but at least it was taken care of. With Ozempic i slowly started losing weight, and in the first year by November 2023 I was down to 125kg, and I restarted the whole procedure for my bariatric surgery. My wife’s procedure was a great success, she lost weight, she was feeling amazing, her A1C levels came down to normal, she finally didn’t have to take diabetes meds anymore, and then my procedure came, Early January 2024 I had my procedure done and this is where this timeline starts!
